The proposed dog park on Riley Road, just off Jean Duluth road, goes before the city council on Monday, August 31. The meeting is open to the public and takes place on the third floor in the Council Chambers at 411 W 1st St. at 7 pm. The dog park agenda item was pulled from the consent agenda which means it will be voted on individually. We don't know how all the councilors plan to vote on it so it is still important to contact the councilors if you haven't done so alread
A new dog park in Gary New Duluth will be coming this fall. This dog park is part of a whole park and recreation center renewal by Stowe Elementary School. The full plan can be seen here. The proposed site on Riley Road was originally approved by the Duluth city council ten years ago, when Keene was approved. Rice Lake township denied it, even thought it would be on city property. With that denial it was shelved. This year the 240 acre city property that includes a maintenance building and storage area, some wild unused areas, wetlands, the soccerfield and ball field park complex were annexed as part of a friendly annexation between Duluth and the township.
